It’s no secret that data and technology is quickly revolutionising the way you teach, learn and manage your boarding school. However, although data and technology can provide amazing benefits for your boarding school, it’s imperative that your students personal information is safeguarded at all times. At Boardingware, we care about your data security and have made it a top priority of ours to ensure that all your data is safeguarded at all times.Recently, we’ve expressed our full commitment to maintaining a high standard of student data protection by signing the Student Privacy Pledge - A pledge to comply with a number of legally binding commitments regarding the collection, maintenance and use of student personal information.

What is the student privacy pledge?

In October 2014, The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) introduced the Student Privacy Pledge. The pledge outlines a number of legally binding commitments to ensure that ed-tech providers maintain high data security standards. Providers are also made aware of certain state regulations such as FERPA and COPPA.The pledge has been endorsed by President Obama, the National PTA and the National School Boards Association and has since played a key role in setting a national standard for protecting student data in the US.The pledge now has more than 200 signatories, including some of the biggest ed-tech providers such as Blackbaud, Edmodo, Clever and Google.Click here to view all the signatories.Ultimately, the pledge allows school service providers like Boardingware, to build trust and calm parents and students concerns about their personal information, whilst aiding your boarding school’s efforts to safeguard student privacy.

What are Boardingware’s security processes?

At Boardingware, we understand that as more and more information is stored in digital formats, privacy concerns are inevitably going to rise.So during our re-build last year, we made an effort to restructure Boardingware in a way that enabled us to implement secure frameworks for collecting, maintaining and using your student data. And by signing the student privacy pledge, Boardingware has committed to:

  • Not sell student information
  • Not disclose student information for use in behaviourally targeted advertising
  • Use data for authorized educational purposes only
  • Not change school service provider privacy policies without notice and choice
  • Enforce time limits on retention of student data
  • Support parental access to, and correction of errors in, their children’s information
  • Maintain a comprehensive security program
  • Be transparent about collection and use of student data.
