Process Your Daily Leave Faster With Our Latest Update

Kurt Meyer

November 17, 2015

From our experience - working with boarding schools from around the world - we know that processing student/pupil leave requests are an important part of your everyday life, and we also know how bothersome the process can be...even at the best of times. That’s why, our core focus at Boardingware is to perfect the leave process. We want to make this process as easy as possible for you and that’s what we've been working on with our latest product update. Find out more about what’s new below.

1. Keep A Record Of Your Activity

Managing a boarding house is a team effort, and it’s important that each member of your team is aware of what’s happening, especially when it comes to processing leave requests. That’s why we’ve included “Leave Records” in our latest update. This feature will keep a record of all the information involved at each stage of the leave process:leave request > upcoming leave > active leave > past leave..

.Any changes or new activity in the leave process will be recorded in the leave form (see image above), and each activity will be recorded with the name of the person responsible and the time/date it occurred. Now you can easily see the history of each leave process, detailing who and when the leave was applied for, approved, signed in, signed out etc..

.You can view the “Leave Record” from the “Notes & History” option shown above, and the latest record entry will also be displayed here so you can easily see what stage the leave is currently at.With a “Paper Trail” for each leave process, any member of your team will be able to quickly see what’s been happening at a glance. There’s no need to try and remember who did what, or dispute over who was responsible for any changes because all of that information will be right there for you to see.

2. Make Changes Along The Way

As the saying goes, “The only thing that is constant is Change”, and student leave requests are no exception.Often, changes to your boarders leave requests are out of your control. They may randomly decide to use a different mode of transport, change supervisors, change the time and date of departure which or their last meal type etc. That’s why we’ve now added the ability to edit your leave details at any stage of the process, so you can adapt to these changes that are out of your control.Previously, if you wanted to make a change, you were required to delete and create a new leave form, ugh! But now, you can make changes on the fly, and any changes you do make will be automatically added to the “Leave Record” that we talked about earlier.Furthermore, you can also schedule a new leave even if the student is already signed out.[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="768"]

3. More Quick Leave Options

The “Quick Leave” feature is a handy tool which allows you to quickly sign students out with just a small amount of information - the destination, the return time and a contact name. But whilst our customers love this feature, there were a few issues that were troubling them. So we've listened and made some improvements in our latest update.

quick leave

..First of all, we’ve removed our default “Quick Leave” option and provided you with the option to create multiple, different "Quick Leave Types."So for instance, you could make a quick leave for “Afterschool” and a different one for “Sports practices,” allowing you to categorise your boarders whereabouts into different types..

.Making a new type is easy. Just simply select the “quick leave” function from any of your existing normal leaves, give it a custom name that best suits your school's workflow and you're ready to go.Your quick leaves will then be displayed with a small “lighting bolt” so you can easily differentiate them from your normal leave types.Secondly, we’ve also given you the option to select normal leave types from your quick leave menu (accessible by tapping and holding). So now you can access all of your leave types for a specific person in one place..

4. More Control In Kiosk Mode

In our latest update, we’ve also made some changes to the "Kiosk Mode.” Previously, boarders could see all leave types, even ones that haven’t been approved for them.So our new update gives you the power to select exactly what leave type can be displayed for each student. This way, each boarder can only see what has been approved for them.Furthermore, we’ve removed the “Other” option from the quick leave menu, so that kids can no longer 'sneakily' sign themselves out wherever they please.Having more control in kiosk mode will give you greater peace of mind, knowing that your boarders can appropriately manage their own leaves..
